Penoffa Farm is a Hill Top farm whose farmhouse has stood since the mid-eighteenth century, with evidence of previous farmhouse foundations many years prior to that. Having once been six hundred acres, the current farm encompasses a somewhat more modest forty, but that affords plenty of space to find peace and tranquility.
The famous Offa’s Dyke (circa 785AD), an earthwork fortification, was built at the behest of the saxon king Offa of Mercia probably to demonstrate the power and intent of his kingdom to the Welsh kingdoms.
The Offa’s Dyke path, now a scheduled ancient monument, runs down the length of Wales and borders our land to the east, so it’s easy to access the path, and get walking through some of the most beautiful countryside that, due to this part of Wales being a hidden gem from the more touristy Hay or Snowdonia, you may well find you have all to yourself.
We moved to this wonderful farm in Mid Wales from Somerset in 2020, after looking for a suitable small holding for about a year. We were new to farming (originally Miranda was a teacher and Stuart is still a software engineer). We have been fortunate to have been supported by local farmers and the Welsh Government Farming Connect programmes.
We believe in sustainability and regenerative management of the farm and land. We are in the process of converting to organic status and do not use any chemicals or pesticides.
We believe in supporting British native breeds of farm animals. Currently we have 50 native breeding ewes (Shetland, Hill Radnor and Lincoln Longwool; 3 Shetland cows; 2 Oxford Sandy and Black sows; and six British Boer goats. We believe in keeping animals in an environment where they can benefit from a life worth living. You won’t find any intensely raised animals here. Even the chickens have a whole orchard.
We are fortunate to live in a place of beauty, tranquillity and peace. We hope on your visit to Penoffa Farm you will experience some of that too.
“Our piece of paradise that we'll share with you”
